Employees of the National Geological Survey took part in the SCO International Conference in China

First Deputy Chairman of the Board Aibek Izhanov visited Xi‘an (China) to participate in the International Conference of Cooperation between the SCO countries in the field of Geosciences and investments in the mining industry. The conference was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the China–SCO Scientific Research Center for Cooperation in the Field of Earth Sciences.

The conference brought together leading geologists, scientists and specialists from the SCO countries. For several days, the participants discussed topical issues of geological exploration, forecasting and development of mineral resources, as well as prospects for cooperation in the mining industry.

The conference featured presentations by leading experts on the successes and prospects of the China–SCO Scientific Research Center for cooperation in the field of Earth sciences, tectonic evolution and mineralization of Paleothesis, prospects for cooperation in the field of geological research and forecasting of mineral resources in the border zone between Kazakhstan and China, as well as other topical issues.

On behalf of Kazakhstani geologists, the head of the Committee of Geology, E.E. Akbarov, made a welcoming speech, who stressed the importance of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in the field of geology.

The International Conference in Xi‘an has become an important event for strengthening cooperation between the SCO countries in the field of Earth sciences and mining. The participants discussed topical issues, exchanged experience and knowledge, and identified new areas for collaboration.

It should be noted that Kazakhstan and China cooperate in this direction within the framework of the Subcommittee on Geology and Subsoil Use of the Kazakh–Chinese Cooperation Committee, established in May 2004. 11 meetings have already been held. A project has been implemented to study the deep processes and metallogeny of deposits in Central Asia, which was attended by Kazakhstan, Russia, China, South Korea, Mongolia. The geologists of the two countries are discussing a project to link the completed geological maps of the border territories.

The joint implementation of these projects will make it possible to analyze the relationship of regional geological structures isolated on the territory of Kazakhstan with global geological structures in Central Asia and obtain new information about metallogenic patterns of mineral deposits.
